Wigan Diggers’ Festival, 12th September 2015, 11am - 9.30pm, The Wiend, Wigan

A free, fun-packed event to celebrate the life of Gerrard Winstanley (1609 – 1676) and the world’s first ‘true socialist’ movement known as ‘The Diggers’. The festival includes live music and poetry. Greater Manchester & District CND will have a stall and be selling trowels (‘Trowels Not Trident’!) and seed bombs. Stop the Arms Fair, Stop Arming Israel, 12th September, 11am - 1pm, Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester

Join Manchester PSC, CAAT and CND for a fantastic creative action, with costumes, banners and lots of energy! The group will be setting up a spoof arms sales unit where ‘arms dealers’ will be selling their weapons to anyone passing by and sharing info about the DSEI arms fair, including the Israeli companies doing business there. On 4th October, there will be a major demonstration to mark the opening of the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester. We’ve invited peace activists from around the country to join our Scrap Trident bloc on the demo. To get the anti-Trident message out, we’ve printed hundreds of placards but really need help putting them together. Non-Violent Direct Action training, 17th September, 7pm - 9pm, Friends Meeting House Manchester

The People’s Assembly have called for five days of action from 3rd to 7th October around the Conservative Party’s Annual Conference to challenge their austerity agenda and show them they’re unwelcome in Manchester. Greater Manchester & District CND will be hosting a direct action training workshop for any campaigners interested in learning more or who planning an action during the conference. It will be accessible for any levels of experience and cover a basic introduction to Direct Action, effective and safe blockading, brainstorming sessions and more. The Trade Union Congress has called a National Demonstration to mark the opening of the Conservative Party Conference on the 4th October in Manchester. Greater Manchester & District CND is organising a ‘Scrap Trident’ bloc on the day. Peace History Conference: An International Perspective, 10th October 2015, 9.30am - 5.00pm

This year's Peace History Conference is taking a wider-world view, looking at different issues in World War I and the following century with an international dimension. Dr Jenny Clegg will shine a light on the treatment of the Chinese Labour Corps by the British and French; Campaign Against the Arms Trade will focus on how 'Arming All Sides' undermines economies and justice in all corners of the globe; and the conference will also look at role of the North West in the arms trade before and during WWI. The conference will open on Friday 9th with a performance of Eloquent Protest and a guided walk round parts of the Manchester Peace Trail.
